Bernhard Jenny – Curriculum Vitae
Bernhard Jenny holds a postdoctoral position at the Institute of Cartography of ETH Zurich, where he also did his PhD studies. He holds a M.S. in Geomatics, Surveying and Environmental Sciences of EPF Lausanne, Switzerland, and a post-graduate certificate in computer graphics of ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
He has taught classes in cartography and computer graphics and has supervised various M.S. and B.A. students. He received the ETH Medal in 2010 as a distinction for his PhD, the CaGIS PhD Award 2009 of the Cartography and Geographic Information Society, the 2007 Henry Johns Award for the best Cartographic Journal article by the British Cartographic Society, and the award for the best final M.S. mark in Rural Engineering, Environmental Technologies and Surveying at EPF Lausanne. He is member of the editorial board of The Cartographic Journal and the Journal of Maps. Bernhard is active in the International Cartographic Association ICA Commissions on Mountain Cartography and Digital Technologies in Cartographic Heritage.
His research interests include terrain representation (relief shading, colored relief, scree and rock, 3D maps), terrain generalization, the design of small-scale map projections, distortion analysis of diagrams and maps, thematic mapping (flow maps, automatic legend construction), web mapping, and map design for the color-vision impaired.
